Building Strong Family Values – Part 2

“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.  Teach them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you  are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Worship The One True God

“Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the  earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the Lord your God and I tolerate no  rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and  fourth generation. But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey  my laws”. Exodus 20:4-6 GNT (The 2nd Commandment)

Two Principles

1. Don’t ‘Idolize’ Anything!

"Idolize" — to VALUE something more than God

“For your own good...don't sin by making an idol in any form at all.”

Deuteronomy 4:15-16 GNT

Modern Day Idolatry in a Materialistic Culture

o Possessions and Nice Things

o Success and Careers

o Technology - Social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc) and Texting

o Sports and Entertainment

o Fame

o Weight and Appearance

o Hobbies

o Romantic Relationships

o Children

o Friendships and Family Relationships

o Emotions and Desires

2. Worship Only God!

"Worship" — to give my highest LOVE & DEVOTION

But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in  spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His  worshipers. John 4:23 AMP

The Benefits of Worshiping Only God

o It will give me CONTENTMENT.

For I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on  almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation,  whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything  through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:11-13

o It will DELIVER me.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain  faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32

o It will DEVELOP me.

And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him. 2 Corinthians 3:18b TLB

This work must continue until we are all joined together in the same faith and in the  same knowledge of the Son of God. We must become like a mature person, growing until we become like Christ and have his perfection. Ephesians 4:13 NCV
